Booking your first boat tour is exciting, but if you’ve never spent a full day on the water, you probably have some questions. Here are seven things we wish every guest knew before they stepped on board.
1. Sunscreen is not optional
This is the number one mistake we see. On a boat, the sun reflects off the water from every direction, and you’ll burn faster than you expect. Apply SPF 50 before you arrive and reapply every two hours. Don’t forget the back of your neck, the tops of your feet, and your ears.
2. Bring a light layer
Even on the hottest days, the wind on the open sea can feel cool, especially when the boat is moving at speed. A light long-sleeve shirt or a thin windbreaker takes up no space and can make a big difference.

3. Seasickness is manageable
If you’re worried about getting seasick, take a motion sickness tablet 30 minutes before departure. Sitting towards the back of the boat, looking at the horizon, and staying in fresh air all help. The good news: most of our tours stick to calm waters close to the coast.
4. Wear the right shoes
Flip-flops are fine on the beach, but on a boat, shoes with rubber soles that grip when wet are much safer. Sport sandals or water shoes work perfectly. You’ll also want something that stays on your feet when climbing in and out of the water.
5. Waterproof your phone
A waterproof phone pouch costs a few euros and can save your phone from saltwater damage. You can still take photos through the pouch, and it floats if you drop it. We’ve seen too many phones go to the bottom of the Adriatic.
6. Cash is useful on island stops
If your tour includes a lunch stop on an island, some smaller restaurants only accept cash. Having 50 to 100 euros in your pocket means you won’t miss out on the best fresh fish on Vis or a cold beer on a hidden beach.

7. Arrive 10 minutes early
We always recommend arriving at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before departure. This gives you time to find parking, get settled, and ask any last-minute questions. Starting relaxed makes the whole day better.
The bottom line
A boat tour is one of the best things you can do on your holiday in Croatia. A little preparation goes a long way toward making it an unforgettable experience.
