What to Do in Brela

What to Do in Brela

Flotilla Dorada

Brela is a small town on the Makarska Riviera, but it punches well above its weight. The beaches are consistently rated among the best in Croatia, the water is impossibly clear, and the setting, wedged between Biokovo mountain and the Adriatic, is hard to match anywhere in the Mediterranean. Here’s what to do once you get here.

Hit the Beach

Start with Punta Rata and Kamen Brela. Punta Rata is the town’s flagship beach, a long stretch of white pebbles shaded by pine trees with Biokovo rising behind it. The iconic Brela Stone sits just offshore. But Punta Rata is only one of more than a dozen beaches along the Brela waterfront. Walk in either direction and you’ll find quieter alternatives, some with beach bars, others completely undeveloped.

Walk the Promenade

The seaside promenade stretches for several kilometres along the coast, connecting beaches, coves, cafés and viewpoints. It’s flat, shaded and endlessly scenic. You can walk the whole thing in an hour or two, but most people stop constantly for a swim or a coffee. In the evening, it fills with families and couples strolling after dinner. It’s the heartbeat of Brela in summer.

Find Hidden Coves

Beyond the main beaches, the coastline is full of small coves tucked between rocks. Some are easy to spot from the promenade, others you’ll only notice from the water. These are the kind of places where you spread your towel on a flat rock, slip into the sea and have the whole swimming spot to yourself. For the best ones, go by boat.

Take a Boat Tour

The islands of Brač and Hvar are visible from Brela’s shore, and reaching them takes under an hour by boat. Our Blue Tour takes you to the Little Blue Cave on Hvar, the town of Jelsa, and hidden swimming spots around the islands. The Golden Horn Tour visits the famous Zlatni Rat beach, Vrboska, and cliff coves. For Hvar’s lavender fields, wine bars and harbour atmosphere, the Premium Hvar Tour is a full day well spent.

If you’d rather set your own schedule, a private tour lets you choose the route, the stops and the pace.

Try Water Sports

Brela offers more than just swimming. You can rent paddleboards and kayaks from several spots along the beach. Snorkelling is rewarding almost anywhere, but especially around the rocky sections and the offshore islets. For something faster, jet ski rentals are available near the harbour.

Explore on Land

Biokovo Nature Park starts just above Brela and offers hiking trails with views that reach all the way to Italy on a clear day. The Skywalk, a glass viewing platform at 1.228 metres above sea level, is one of the most popular excursions in the region.

Off-road adventure near Makarska

If hiking isn’t your thing, rent a scooter or an ATV from Brela Moto Rent and explore the back roads behind Makarska. The views from the hills above the coast are spectacular, and there are small villages and konobas worth discovering.

Eat Well

Brela has no shortage of good food. Grilled fish is the local standard, served with blitva (Swiss chard and potatoes) and a drizzle of olive oil. Look for restaurants that display the day’s catch. Croatian wines, especially the reds from Pelješac and the whites from Hvar, pair perfectly with seafood.

For something lighter, the gelato along the promenade is excellent. So is the coffee. Croatian café culture is strong, and sitting with an espresso overlooking the sea is as much an activity as anything else on this list.

Stay for Sunset

Sunset from the boat near Brela

One of the best things about Brela’s position is that it faces west. Every evening, the sun sets behind the islands, and the sky turns orange and pink. You can watch it from the beach, from a restaurant terrace, or from the deck of a boat. Our Sunset Tour takes you out on the water for the golden hour, with swimming and drinks as the light fades. It’s a perfect way to end a day in Brela.

Plan Your Day

Whether you’re here for a week or just passing through, Brela rewards people who slow down. Swim in the morning, take a boat tour at midday, eat fresh fish in the afternoon, walk the promenade at sunset. It’s not complicated, and that’s the point.
